Odorless grit removal and reduced hauling costs

Brackett Green® MacerAcer Technology

The Brackett Green MacerAcer screening technology combines three modular units that reduce the volume of screenings by up to 90 percent, through grit removal and dewatering. This process reduces the number of trips to the landfill and their associated costs.

The first stage of the Brackett Green MacerAcer system removes grit and macerates the material. Stage two involves the separation of organic from inorganic material and dewatering in a centrifuge. The final stage compacts and further dewaters before removal.

The Brackett Green MacerAcer reduces screenings volume by 87-93 percent, which directly benefits our partners by lowering their transportation costs for screenings transport and disposal by more than 75 percent. In addition, the ability to pump the macerated screenings allows for more flexibility of the design of the wastewater treatment plant and eliminates for need for debris transfer conveyors.

In some cases, the ability to provide odor-free screenings has allowed for the installation of wastewater treatment plants in sensitive residential settings, which would not be possible with the traditional screw compactor type of screenings handling equipment.

The Brackett Green MacerAcer has the following additional features and benefits:

  • Separates all organic matter for discharge back to the plant, which is needed for the biological process
  • Eliminates the need for conveyors that are sometimes required for transport of the screenings
  • Flexible and smaller foot print for existing plant layouts or new construction
  • A range of models with processing capabilities of 2-12 m3/hr

The Brackett Green MacerAcer technology solves all the normal concerns associated with wet screenings collection from sewage.

The maceration pump vigorously agitates the wet screenings in the conditioning tank, then shears the inorganics into 3/8 inch pieces, or smaller. The conditioned screenings are then pumped in a slurry to the liquid separator. This provides the crucial step of forcing out the fecal matter and emulsified fats and grease for return to the wastewater process. The remaining inorganics are dewatered by 87-93 percent and ejected into a dumpster in a virtually odorless and unrecognizable form. The dewatered inorganics are similar to confetti in appearance.

This process also allows the screenings to be dewatered away from the location of the screens, which is an important feature in the design of some wastewater treatment plants. The screenings can be pumped vertically and horizontally as needed.
